Hello,

I have a question regarding the naming scheme and chronology of the latest LibreCAD versions.

I noticed that version v2.2.1.2 (Released/Final) was released on July 13, 2025, while version 2.2.1.1_rc-latest (Release Candidate) was released later, on October 15, 2025.

My question is: Are these dates and version names correct? In standard versioning, a version released later in time (October 2025) should have a higher number. Shouldn't this release candidate be 2.2.1.3 instead of a test version from the 2.2.1.1 branch?

Verify LibreCAD file on MacBook

I want to install the free Librecad software on my Macbook Air.

I found the download link on GitHub via Librecad.org. I then downloaded a .dmg file. When extracting/installing, I keep getting the message that the source cannot be verified. Can someone tell me how to solve this or perhaps recommend another source that can be verified?

Time for 2.2.1.4, any blockers?

I've been following the development of the libdxfrw library and noticed that the fork maintained by codelibs has several commits and improvements that aren't yet present in the official LibreCAD/libdxfrw repository.

Given the importance of DXF/DWG support for LibreCAD, would it be possible for a maintainer to review the work done here?

Any Linux LibreCAD appimage

I have stumbled upon this via the puppylinux forum. It is different to LibreCAD's own appimage in that it works with a wide variety of linuxes, also older ones. For me it works even with puppy Buster and Xenial. It is a bit larger though.

Added support for macOS Apple Silicon build. Please note the dmg file is not signed, and running is blocked by macOS security. Some workaround is needed in order to run the Apple Silicon (arm64) version of DMG:

sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - LibreCAD.app

Compared with previous changes, Windows builds are built using MSVC instead of MinGW.

2.2.1.3 should be released soon.

While 2025 saw some heavy development in LibreCAD-master, I didn't get enough development time to complete the last piece of conics support in LibreCAD: a new primitive geometry: hyperbola.

The features are getting production ready, and PR merging is expected soon, if no serious issue is found.

Hello, my name is Arturo de Jesús, I'm an architect from Mexico, and I'm a frequent user of free software. I've been using LibreCAD for a few years now for some small architectural projects. I'd like to know if it's possible to include TrueType fonts in LibreCAD, like those in the Open Source Community version of QCAD? I must admit that I create some drawings in LibreCAD, but I edit the text in QCAD because of its TrueType fonts. However, the line sizes get messed up when I open them in that software. I feel that the development of version 2.2.2 has progressed well and is very good because LibreCAD feels more fluid and faster. I've tested the Alpha versions, but the only thing I'm still missing is TrueType fonts, as the drawings would have a much higher quality graphic representation.

With the new CMakeLists.txt (librecad_lib), I can no longer build the Python extensions using swig. I always get undefined references. It worked before. Building works perfectly fine in librecad.pro. I have no idea what to do.

Experimental spline features

With the PR merged today, spline (not spline through points, which is actually second order Béziers) can be edited for:

Control points, weights, and knot vector.

Please note, some features may be still need more fixes.

I also started the math for fitting: so it's possible to have spline fitting finally.

Not changed: the spline is still by line segment approximation. To draw actually spline would require lots of development time. Probably, not an urgency.

I would like to report the following behavior of LibreCAD:

Two or more tabs are open (Tab mode),
Enter the Drawings option in the Menu and select Window mode,
Again in Drawings, the Tab Mode option is selected,
Tabs are clicked (tabs are disabled in the order they are selected), i.e. unresponsive,
To re-enable it(s) you have to go to Drawings again and from the list of open tabs you have to select one by one the one(s) that do not respond, however, when the drawing in the window responds again it expands or reduces.

Hatching algorithm and AI coding

Hi,

I have been trying AI coding with the recent PR: https://github.com/LibreCAD/LibreCAD/issues/2280

The PR introduces a new hatching algorithm based on topology algorithms. This is needed as the legacy algorithm is poor on topology analysis, and causing many hatching/solid fill issues.

The AI code is not really following our coding style yet, but the algorithm appears to be working after a few attempts.

The success makes it's conceivable to finish the long requested features:

1. hatching by clicking on an enclosed area;
2. Updated DWG support; probably also add a dwg2dxf tool (in addition to dxf2pdf and dxf2png).

I have been trying DeepSeek (as it's free) and Grok-4 (this one costs a few hundred dollars per year).

Hi,

With https://github.com/LibreCAD/LibreCAD/pull/2267 , adding new unit tests is easier:

1. identify a cpp file for testing;
for example, librecad/src/lib/math/rs_math.cpp
2. create a folder named "tests" at the cpp location;
For example, librecad/src/lib/math/tests/
3. Add your tests in a file named with the suffix "_tests.cpp" in the tests folder;
For example, librecad/src/lib/math/tests/rs_math_tests.cpp
4. Add your tests following Catch2 styles;
5. Add your new _tests.cpp file to CMakeLists.txt in the project file folder;
6. Add the new file(s) and the CMakeLists.txt by "git add" and commit your changes.

Please note steps 1-3 are just a convention to follow, and feel free to use a convention better, if you feel have to.

Please note, AI can generate tests fast.

I know focus of LibeCAD is 2D, and STEP is primarily 3D (I hope I am correct) format. But http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_10303#Coverage_of_STEP_Application_Protocols_.28AP.29 has some pointer about 2D

Mechanical:
AP 201, Explicit draughting. Simple 2D drawing geometry related to a product. No association, no assembly hierarchy.
AP 202, Associative draughting. 2D/3D drawing with association, but no product structure.

My question is:

Is it useful / desired feature to have STEP Import / Export?

Icons color

In the 2.2.2 development version, I see that in the widget options there is an option to change the color of the icons, however, I am unable to change it. Is it possible that this option is not currently enabled or am I doing something wrong?

A few important bugs have been fixed since v2.2.1.1:

1. Accurate arc rendering (Issue #2035). The Qt rendering framework doesn't accurately render arcs(and elliptic acs) when zoomeded. This issue was identified and fixed for arcs in v2.2.1.2;
2. A crashing issue (Issue #2034);
3. A few usage issues.

During my first attempts to use mslide (create a slide from a drawing), I noticed a potential bug.

When creating a pixmap from the drawing,
regardless of whether I use "Export as Image" or mslide, a line isn't drawn at all.

Hello, I urgently need help.
I build an action with RS_Action interface, without a preview (rendering of an AutoCad Slide).

When I remove finish(false); from ::trigger, the action continues, but I don't get any events in the action.
Probably because the RS_EventHandler is put on hasAction.

What do I have to do to get the events in the action?

I need this because the action is to be ended via events.

The recent noises at github actions(CI)

Just in case you are seeing many failures in our automated builds at github.

The trouble was triggered by github changes on deprecating ubunt-20.04, which was used for our Linux AppImage building.

Then, the github action for Qt installation failure:

Facing multiple failures, it took me a while to understand the root causes. Therefore, I contributed more noises with incorrect fixes.

Hopefully, CI will be working stably for us again, but probably with one caveat for Linux AppImage.

Due to some weird Qt issues with ubunt-22.04, I have updated Linux AppImage(x64) to ubuntu-24.04. If you have trouble running the AppImage, please consider running the Snap package instead.

Another action that greatly slows down the development of the drawing is the loss of access to the Command Line, often when pressing <ESC> to END a command or WINDOW. I need to use CTRL M many times.

Small bug in the snake tool

I think there is a small bug in the "snake x" or "snake y" tool. When we draw with snake marking the points directly with the mouse and then we want to use the references to, for example, draw a line between two of its end points, it works perfectly.

However if we use the "snake x" or "snake y" tool entering with the keyboard the length of each line, if then we want to use the reference points to draw a line joining vertices of the one made with snake, the reference points only work in the first segment performed, end point and intermediate points, but from the end point of the first segment no longer recognizes them.
