I just install LibreCAD-v2.2.1.3 and copy paste works not expected. Pasted objects always much smaller than original. I downgraded to LibreCAD-v2.2.1.2-14 and its working as usual.

To reproduce just draw a circle and try to paste it to the same drawing.

The documentation of LibreCAD is currently being refreshed and reshaped.

The section "Build from source" was copied from the current Wiki to the new site (readthedocs.io). We need some people to run the building from source on MacOS to check if everything is fine and up-to-date. The purpose is to follow the given directions and to report any issue, any missing step or any change in parameter.

 Good Morning,

I just downloaded the Windows version of LibreCAD this morning. That all seemed to go as expected. I unpacked the .zip file, and that went fine.

BUT I cannot find a .exe file to initiate the program. What am I doing wrong? I feel like a novice (and maybe I am).

Anyway, I look forward to using LibreCAD. I have multiple projects needing design pretty much immediately.

Thank you for your help.

 Hello,
I appreciate LibreCad and all the work that has gone into it. I have mainly used it as a tool to verify the dxf output from another drawing package. So in a way it is my reference and very important to avoid mistakes when sending my files to the shop.
I am working now on an idea for converting a 2d drawing into Gcode for engraving. I know there are packages that claim to do this but I'm yet to find a good one that can output efficient codes. I would like to explore taking the coordinates for the various entities to use. I know that I can get entity coordinates for one thing at a time using the plugin. Is there a way I can get all the entities at once and send them to a file? I know I'm asking a lot, but thought that since LibreCAD already reads the dxf file and must parse all the data, maybe it is available somehow? My apologies if it seems a stupid question.
thanks,
Jozef
I've changed the paper orientation in librecad, and changed it at the printer screen. I've told it to accept changes and to ignore changes. Hello all,
I'm new to LibreCAD, so please excuse my ignorance when it comes to all the functions in this program. I have been using AutoCAD for years, but my license is up and I cannot sustain the cost. I only just learned about LibreCAD and I'm very excited to start using this program!

I am having difficulty importing my previous projects from AutoCAD. I exported my projects to .dwf format (though it doesn't appear that I can do anything with those. Next I used an online converter to convert my .dwg files to .dxf format. I can open the .dxf files in AutoCAD still (though I lost my paper space layouts, but that's not such a big deal).

When I attempt to open my .dxf files in LibreCAD, however, I receive the following prompt:

You can see in my screen snip that my project is visible behind the error message. When I select "OK," that all goes away. I've tried zooming in, and zooming out, as has been suggested in other forum threads. My project is not there, and the application header does not display my project name.

I have another 25 days before my AutoCAD license expires, and I'm in a bit of a state of panic. I greatly appreciate any help from the LibreCAD community! Thanks in advance.

I'm frustrated. I been using Librecad for over a year, and finally using for work. I can print PDFs and send them to customers but cant make a shop drawing with it. When I hit print preview the object appears centered in the viewport. I go to the scale selection and no matter what scale I choose the view port shrinks to .5"x.75", and it jumps off the object then when I hit center to page the little viewport centers on the object. Do I have something set wrong, or do i blame it on microsoft, which is what I normally do.

Moving/positioning object intuitively and precisely

I'm just beginning to trying to learn LibreCAD. Something that troubles me greatly is just moving entities. The most intuitive way to move an object is to just grab it and drag it around. But:

- you first need to select the object, and then you need to click again and aim your mouse pointer carefully to hit any lines of the object, or clicking will enter selection mode instead of drag mode
- the object position is offset to the object's origin: basically the object will move a little bit when moving, and you have to move it back to compensate
- it can happen that you accidentally drag only a single point (e.g. polygon node) instead of the entire object, depending on the entity type
- when the object is a block, you will only see a bounding box of the moved object, instead of its full detail

This seems all clumsy and inconvenient. The "Move/Copy" tool is a bit better at this. At least you don't need to "aim" anymore when you want to drag an object. But:

- you still need to select the object first, then activate the move tool, and it's easy to get confused which tool is active currently
- it still doesn't render a good "preview" while dragging
- when done, a confirmation dialog is shown, which doesn't seem very useful and interrupts the flow; the dialog lets you choose whether to make copies - why isn't making copies just a separate tool?

Isn't there a way to just select and drag objects freely in one click? Every diagram editor works like this. (Maybe there's a good reason that CAD normally doesn't need or want this?)

Once the objects are placed coarsely, I need exact placement. Intuitively I'd prefer something like an edit field that shows the coordinates of the object, and where I can just change the numbers to exactly what I need. Does LibreCAD offer this functionality? I know there's a command line, where you can move or place entities by exact numeric coordinates, but its usefulness seems limited in this particular use case.

I just downloaded LibreCAD for Linux Mint via the Software Manger. I am new to LibreCAD.

When I opened the program and looked for a tutorial and started reading I noticed they mentioned a tool bar that should be on the bottom of the screen. I then looked closer and almost all of that toolbar is cut off by the bottom of my screen. I can only resize the window horizontally and not vertically. I do not, and cannot have a mouse with a scroll wheel and there is no scroll bar on the side to scroll down the window.

Any ideas on how to see the bottom of the screen? I also tried making the window "full screen" and that did not help at all.

Thanks

P.S. As I was writing this, just before sending the above.I stopped to check the name of the toolbar that is cut off on the bottom of the window to see if I should include it in this post. I opened the LibreCAD again to try and figure it out, and the problem ceased to be. I think the solution is, and why I am sending this after all, that others may be helped, is that after I resized the window horizontally, dragging the sides of the window making it fill the whole width of my screen, then right clicking at the very top of the window (where the X to close would be) and clicking resize (which I assume sets the new dimensions for the window to open in the future), upon closing LibreCAD and opening it again, it caused the whole window to orient itself correctly and I can now see the whole bottom of the screen except for a tiny bit of the zeros on the bottom, but all is fully legible regardless. If I am wrong in my reasoning as to why the problem resolved, or if anyone has questions regarding this issue, do ask or inform so anyone else encountering this may find a quick resolution to any similar issue.

So far I have been unsuccessful at trimming the two ovals that form the zero so the 5 is not a seperate piece, or destroying the 2 ovals? I have tried two line trim several times, but have been unsuccessful.

Problems with the Rotate Tool in Debian
Hello, dear friends, I wanted to report a couple of problems. When I use the Rotate tool, for example, to rotate a square and align it with a straight reference line, the square isn't perfectly aligned. There's a slight, almost imperceptible misalignment that's only noticeable when zoomed in. This only happens on Debian Trixie; this problem doesn't exist on Windows. I'm using LibreCAD version 2.2.1.3, and the Align plugin is broken on both Debian trixie and Windows 10.

 Hello to all,
New user to LibreCAD. I'm a software engineer with strong experience in Photoshop but very little CAD background.
My ambition with LibreCAD is to produce dxf files for a laser printer. Printouts are fairly simple.
I hope to get some help. I already tried the app on Windows 11 but am totally stuck to even measure the distance between 2 points. The wiki or user manual provides no help as it describes items I do not see on the app, such as command line.

 Hello,

I happened on librecad as a frree and effective replacement for AutoCAD which is too expensive for me to justify. I have the 2.2.0.1 version and I've been using it to create a view of my property for documentation purposes. However, I've experienced a few "bugs". I now want to upgrade the program, however, I can only git an upgrade from github (the source forge option no longer appears on the web page). I've downloaded the LibreCAD-2.2.1-latest.zip file, but have no idea what to do with it. Can anyone tell me how to install the update from this file?

 Hello,

I have a question regarding the naming scheme and chronology of the latest LibreCAD versions.

I noticed that version v2.2.1.2 (Released/Final) was released on July 13, 2025, while version 2.2.1.1_rc-latest (Release Candidate) was released later, on October 15, 2025.

My question is: Are these dates and version names correct? In standard versioning, a version released later in time (October 2025) should have a higher number. Shouldn't this release candidate be 2.2.1.3 instead of a test version from the 2.2.1.1 branch?

Thank you in advance for the clarification.

 Hello,

I'm trying to start with very simple actions: import an image and scale it so that I can read the real position of any point in mm. Import is fine. Then, I try to measure the distance between two points. I select the |<--?-->| icon. I get the message: Specify the first point. I click and see a small red spot with the message: Specify the second point. I select a second point, but get: Specify the first point.
Other question. I was able to create points. They are either showed as a red dash rectangle, or a white rectangle with a circle inside. Which one represents a selected object? Trying to create a line between the two points gives the same result as above.
Tried the help/duckduckgo/forums but couldn't find any answers.

MasterCam, at least my version wouldn't work on Linux/
So I jumped into LibreCad.

I use CAD for designing woodworking projects.
Basically to generate drawings to help me make my projects.

I have LOTS of years of CAD experience.
Started on Computervision back in the late "70's or early '80's.
Can't remember exactly when.
Just the fact that it was over 4 decades ago gives you an idea on old I am.

I've used CADDS 3 and 4 from computervision, a McDonnell Douglas system, CATIA, CADAM, Solid Edge and MasterCam.
Maybe I've even forgotten a few.
Its been a while.

Vast majority has been 2D drawing to allow manufacturing of Tooling, Injection Molds and Stamping Dies.

These drawings then would be used in a CAM software to program various machines to make tooling.

I Find that I get my mind so used to one system that starting another is the hardest part.
Some functions are different and the whole process of drawing is different.

So I'm sure I'll be asking some really dumb questions till I get used to LibreCad, so thanks in advance to all.

setting the correct scale on an imperial architectural drawing

 Good morning all,

Here's the intro:
My name is Stu Rhodes. I'm a retired Tech Ed teacher and Red Seal Carpenter. I used to do quite a bit of residential architecture as a side job. Initially all my work was on the board with conventional drafting tools. Later I became quite proficient at using MiniCAD (for a Mac) to execute my designs/drawings. Fast forward about 20 years and I've found myself roped into helping some friends create drawings for several buildings on a remote recreational property. I no longer have access to the now outdated MiniCAD so so thought I would give LibreCAD a try.

Here's the dilemma:
I'm pretty old school (as are the friends I am helping) so I prefer to draw/work in Imperial (feet, inches, fractions of an inch) and use the standard residential scale for these drawings of 1/4" represents 1'-0" (or 12") or 1:48. I need to create/present the drawings on a standard A1 page format. Past practice for me in MiniCAD or AutoCAD has been to open the A1 page, create a border and title block, then establish the desired scale of 1:48, set the grid at the desired snap spacing (usually 1/8" or 1/16") , establish all the likely layers, save as a template for all the pages to be drawn, then get to work creating the actual drawing of the house.

I've managed to open the A1 page and draw the title block. As per usual, I created the title block with slightly more than a half inch of space outside on the top and bottom to leave 22", less an inch for the title block leaves 21" of drawing space in height. Then I allowed half an inch of space on the right edge and a little over an inch on the left to allow for binding, thus leaving a drawing space of 31 1/5" in width. The problem arises when trying to set the scale! These drawing space dimensions should equate to 84 feet in height by 126 feet in width. Try as I might, I am unable to adjust the scale to get this amount of distance. The maximum height and width I can get within the borders is approximately 45'-9" feet high by 67' wide. It is critically important to establish the correct scale on the drawing so it fits within the allocated boundaries set by the title block and so it prints at the appropriate scale so building trades practitioners can perform approximate scaling of dimensions directly off the printed drawings using a simple tape measure (with 1/4" increments) or a scale ruler with 1/4": 1'-0" designation.

I've been stuck in this rut for a couple of days now! Please help! Many thanks in advance! :)

Being an old Autocad user, I am used to snapping points having clear indicators for the middle point, canter point, end or other snaps. I can draw a line here and want to find its middle point but there are all kinds of places along it that seem to be snapping points. Do I have to turn all snaps off but the one I want? I'm now in 2.0.2. Isn't there a better way to find snapping point indicators?

 Hi there

I hit this problem time and again and usually resolve it by taking a screenshot of the Print Preview screen, which is not very satisfactory!

I attach my dxf file, a screenshot of the Print Preview screen, and the PDF file.

I want a PDF of my efforts but the only thing visible in the PDF are the arrow heads of the dimension, everything else has vanished. This is the same whether I do File/Export/Export as PDF or Print/Print to File (PDF).

I'm using version 2.1.3 on Ubuntu 20.04. Please tell me how to fix this!

Thanks
