To reproduce just draw a circle and try to paste it to the same drawing.

The documentation of LibreCAD is currently being refreshed and reshaped.

The section "Build from source" was copied from the current Wiki to the new site (readthedocs.io). We need some people to run the building from source on MacOS to check if everything is fine and up-to-date. The purpose is to follow the given directions and to report any issue, any missing step or any change in parameter.

I'm frustrated. I been using Librecad for over a year, and finally using for work. I can print PDFs and send them to customers but cant make a shop drawing with it. When I hit print preview the object appears centered in the viewport. I go to the scale selection and no matter what scale I choose the view port shrinks to .5"x.75", and it jumps off the object then when I hit center to page the little viewport centers on the object. Do I have something set wrong, or do i blame it on microsoft, which is what I normally do.

Moving/positioning object intuitively and precisely

I'm just beginning to trying to learn LibreCAD. Something that troubles me greatly is just moving entities. The most intuitive way to move an object is to just grab it and drag it around. But:

- you first need to select the object, and then you need to click again and aim your mouse pointer carefully to hit any lines of the object, or clicking will enter selection mode instead of drag mode
- the object position is offset to the object's origin: basically the object will move a little bit when moving, and you have to move it back to compensate
- it can happen that you accidentally drag only a single point (e.g. polygon node) instead of the entire object, depending on the entity type
- when the object is a block, you will only see a bounding box of the moved object, instead of its full detail

This seems all clumsy and inconvenient. The "Move/Copy" tool is a bit better at this. At least you don't need to "aim" anymore when you want to drag an object. But:

- you still need to select the object first, then activate the move tool, and it's easy to get confused which tool is active currently
- it still doesn't render a good "preview" while dragging
- when done, a confirmation dialog is shown, which doesn't seem very useful and interrupts the flow; the dialog lets you choose whether to make copies - why isn't making copies just a separate tool?

Isn't there a way to just select and drag objects freely in one click? Every diagram editor works like this. (Maybe there's a good reason that CAD normally doesn't need or want this?)

Once the objects are placed coarsely, I need exact placement. Intuitively I'd prefer something like an edit field that shows the coordinates of the object, and where I can just change the numbers to exactly what I need. Does LibreCAD offer this functionality? I know there's a command line, where you can move or place entities by exact numeric coordinates, but its usefulness seems limited in this particular use case.

I just downloaded LibreCAD for Linux Mint via the Software Manger. I am new to LibreCAD.

When I opened the program and looked for a tutorial and started reading I noticed they mentioned a tool bar that should be on the bottom of the screen. I then looked closer and almost all of that toolbar is cut off by the bottom of my screen. I can only resize the window horizontally and not vertically. I do not, and cannot have a mouse with a scroll wheel and there is no scroll bar on the side to scroll down the window.

Any ideas on how to see the bottom of the screen? I also tried making the window "full screen" and that did not help at all.

Thanks

P.S. As I was writing this, just before sending the above.I stopped to check the name of the toolbar that is cut off on the bottom of the window to see if I should include it in this post. I opened the LibreCAD again to try and figure it out, and the problem ceased to be. I think the solution is, and why I am sending this after all, that others may be helped, is that after I resized the window horizontally, dragging the sides of the window making it fill the whole width of my screen, then right clicking at the very top of the window (where the X to close would be) and clicking resize (which I assume sets the new dimensions for the window to open in the future), upon closing LibreCAD and opening it again, it caused the whole window to orient itself correctly and I can now see the whole bottom of the screen except for a tiny bit of the zeros on the bottom, but all is fully legible regardless. If I am wrong in my reasoning as to why the problem resolved, or if anyone has questions regarding this issue, do ask or inform so anyone else encountering this may find a quick resolution to any similar issue.

 Hello,

I'm trying to start with very simple actions: import an image and scale it so that I can read the real position of any point in mm. Import is fine. Then, I try to measure the distance between two points. I select the |<--?-->| icon. I get the message: Specify the first point. I click and see a small red spot with the message: Specify the second point. I select a second point, but get: Specify the first point.
Other question. I was able to create points. They are either showed as a red dash rectangle, or a white rectangle with a circle inside. Which one represents a selected object? Trying to create a line between the two points gives the same result as above.
Tried the help/duckduckgo/forums but couldn't find any answers.

I am a new user but not new to CAD. I want to be able to construct a line or an array of lines parallel (offset) from an existing line and really would like to have someone help me with the proper keystroke sequence.
I seem to be able to construct a single line if it is offset (parallel) to the existing line and the offset is in the positive direction. But I cannot figure out how to do the offset in the opposite (negative) direction. I also cannot figure out how to construct a series of parallel lines all the same spacing apart whether they are in a positive or in a negative direction.
I am in my 80's and want to learn LibreCAD - so far so good but I am pretty well stumped on parallel line construction.
It would be most helpful if you could provide me with the keystroke sequence to make this work ---
i am continually getting syntax errors.
